Claude artifacts alternative: where to share, build or host the page

Compare 15 Claude artifacts alternatives: share the page with anyone, build it in another assistant, or turn it into an app with a database and sign-in.

 · 12 min read

People look for a Claude artifacts alternative for one of three reasons. The person they sent the link to can't open it. The page needs its own address, a second page or a form. Or the page has grown into an app that needs a database and sign-in. Each reason has a different answer, and only the third one means leaving Claude.

The first reason became common on September 16, 2026. That day Anthropic moved artifacts to a new format, and a new artifact shared by link opens only for people who sign in to Claude (Anthropic Help Center). A client, a wedding guest or a visitor from Google usually has no Claude account.

Below: what changed, a comparison of 15 alternatives, and which one fits which job.

TL;DR

  • The viewer can't open the link. Keep building in Claude and publish the HTML on a host. htmlkin gives a public link with no account on either side; ShareDuo and Pagelive are made for AI pages too.
  • The page needs a domain, more pages or a form. Any static host covers this. On htmlkin a custom domain is free and Claude publishes over MCP.
  • You want the same thing in another assistant. ChatGPT, Gemini Canvas and Google AI Studio preview HTML apps in the chat.
  • The page is becoming an app. Lovable, Bolt, v0 and ChatGPT Sites generate the app and host it. Lovable, Bolt and ChatGPT Sites include a database.

Why people look for a Claude artifacts alternative

Artifacts are good at one job: a working page next to the chat, made in a minute. The limits show up the moment the page leaves the chat.

1. The viewer needs a Claude account. Since September 16, 2026, chats make artifacts in the new format. The help center is direct about sharing them: "Everyone needs a Claude account. People without one can't open a shared artifact, even with the link." On Pro and Max you can pick "Anyone with the link" and invite up to 50 people by email, and the account rule still applies (Anthropic Help Center).

2. The page lives at one address on claude.ai. An artifact is one page. It has no custom domain, no PIN and no form that sends you entries. In Claude Code artifacts, relative links "do not resolve", every external image is blocked by the security policy, and the page must stay under 16 MiB (Claude Code Docs).

3. There is no real backend. Each artifact gets up to 20 MB of storage that "accepts text only, no images, files, or binary data" (Anthropic Help Center). That is enough for poll answers or settings. User accounts and a database with tables need another tool.

Three kinds of artifacts exist today, and they share differently:

Artifact Who opens a shared link Plans
New artifact from a chat (after Sept 16, 2026) People with a Claude account All plans
Legacy artifact (made before Sept 16, 2026), published Anyone, no account Free, Pro, Max
Claude Code artifact, shared publicly Anyone, no sign-in Pro, Max; Team and Enterprise if the owner allows

What this means in practice: a new public link without sign-in comes only from Claude Code, on a paid plan. A new artifact from a chat, on any plan, gets a link that only Claude users open. To reach everyone else, the page has to live somewhere outside claude.ai.

The table groups the alternatives by the problem they solve. "Viewer account" answers the question behind most searches: can a stranger open the link?

Keep Claude, move the page to a host

If Claude makes the page you want and the only problem is who can open it, keep Claude and change where the page lives. An artifact is already a finished HTML page with the styles and scripts inside, so any static host serves it as it is.

htmlkin: a public link with no account on either side

htmlkin publishes an HTML file, a folder or a ZIP and gives a link like https://report.htmlkin.io. The first link needs no sign-up, and the viewer needs no account either.

  1. Get the HTML. Copy the code from the artifact panel or download it. In Claude Code the file is already on your disk: ask Claude for the path.
  2. Drop it on htmlkin.io, or paste the code on the "Paste HTML" tab.
  3. Copy the link and send it.

Without an account the link lasts 24 hours. A free account keeps the site at the same address and adds a custom domain.

All three walls from the first section come down here. Images go next to index.html as files, pages link to each other, and the domain is yours. A PIN, QR codes and lead forms come with Pro at $9.99 a month (pricing).

Claude can also publish the page itself. Connect the htmlkin MCP server once, on any plan, and ask in the chat: "publish this page at report and give me the link". The setup for claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code is in the guide on hosting a site made with ChatGPT or Claude.

Our experience: we keep two kinds of links. A Claude Code artifact is for teammates who sign in to Claude anyway. A report for a partner goes to htmlkin over MCP, because it needs photos as files, a second page and our own domain.

ShareDuo and Pagelive: sharing services for AI pages

Both were built around the same problem, and both give a link that needs no account to open.

ShareDuo presents itself as "the complete way to share Claude artifacts". You upload without signing up, and free links expire after 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days, with a password and view counts included. Permanent links and custom domains come with the Plus plan, listed at $4.99 a month at the time of writing (ShareDuo).

Pagelive publishes from Claude, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex through MCP. The free plan holds 2 public pages with a Pagelive badge. The Solo plan at $15 a month adds unlimited pages, a password and up to 5 custom domains (Pagelive pricing).

These numbers come from the vendors' own pages.

Netlify and GitHub Pages: general static hosts

Both serve an artifact as well as any other HTML. GitHub Pages is free for public repositories and needs a GitHub account and a repository. Netlify Drop takes a folder in the browser and keeps the site behind a temporary password until you claim it with an account. The Netlify Drop alternatives article compares eight hosts by whether the first link needs an account.

Build the page in another assistant

If you want the same "describe it, see it next to the chat" experience somewhere else, three assistants have it.

ChatGPT. Code blocks switch between "Code" and "Preview", and the preview renders HTML pages and React components (OpenAI Help Center). For a hosted site, ChatGPT Sites builds and hosts it with a database, file storage and "Sign in with ChatGPT", and you can make the site public or connect your domain (ChatGPT Sites docs). Sites is on paid plans from Plus up, and at launch it is unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK (OpenAI Help Center).

Gemini Canvas. Free for every Gemini user. Canvas makes "apps, games, interactive quizzes, web pages" with code and preview views (Gemini Canvas). Canvas apps can save data across sessions and devices, and Share & export → Share gives a public link. Google's help notes that shared links open only on gemini.google.com, the link shows a snapshot, and later edits stay out of it (Gemini Apps Help).

Google AI Studio. Build mode is free and makes full-stack apps with a React frontend, a Node.js runtime, a Firestore database and Firebase Authentication (Google AI for Developers). Publishing creates a Cloud Run service. The Starter tier publishes up to 2 apps without a Google Cloud billing account, on a subdomain like your-app-name.ai.studio (Deploying apps).

The HTML these assistants produce travels as well as an artifact. When you want your own address, the steps for hosting a site made with ChatGPT or Claude apply to all of them.

When the page is becoming an app

User accounts and a database with tables need an app builder. Each of these generates the app from a prompt and hosts it.

  • Lovable. The free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits a month for the backend. Sites publish to a lovable.app subdomain, public or invite-only. A custom domain and removing the "Edit with Lovable" badge need Pro at $25 a month (Lovable docs, Publish).
  • Bolt. The free plan has 1M tokens a month, website hosting on a .bolt.host domain and unlimited databases, with Bolt branding. Custom domains are "only available for Pro users" (Bolt pricing). When a site hits the plan's hosting limit, it "stops displaying publicly until your usage resets" (Bolt support).
  • v0. The free plan allows 7 messages a day and gives new users $5 in one-time credits. Apps publish to a vercel.app domain, and a custom domain is added in the Vercel project settings. Who can open the app depends on the team's plan and deployment protection (v0 pricing, Deployments).
  • ChatGPT Sites, from the previous section, belongs here too if you already pay for ChatGPT.

The trade-off is the same everywhere: the app lives on the builder's platform and runs on its credits or plan limits. A landing page, a report or a presentation needs less. Their JavaScript runs in the visitor's browser, so a static host serves them as they are, along with calculators, quizzes, games and dashboards.

Open-source and self-hosted alternatives

For a team that wants artifacts on its own servers, there are four projects worth a look.

  • Open WebUI has an artifacts panel "inspired by Claude.AI's Artifacts". It renders single-page HTML, SVG and HTML with JavaScript and CSS. React components are outside its scope.
  • LobeHub added artifacts to its chat in September 2024 and works with most model providers.
  • llamacoder describes itself as "an open source Claude Artifacts" that generates small apps from one prompt. MIT license.
  • Artifact Server is "the open-source, self-hostable alternative to Claude Code artifacts", released in August 2026. Agents publish through a skill or MCP, the team reviews and comments, and it deploys to Cloudflare, AWS, Google Cloud or Kubernetes.

The first three replace the chat that makes the page. Artifact Server replaces the place where the team keeps them. A link for someone outside the team still needs a public host.

Which Claude artifacts alternative to pick

Pick by what happens after you send the link.

  • A client or a friend can't open your artifact. Publish the HTML on htmlkin: no account for you or for them. Sign up later if the page should stay online.
  • A page that should sit on your domain. htmlkin's free plan or GitHub Pages. htmlkin takes the file in the browser and needs one DNS record.
  • You publish from Claude every week. Connect an MCP server: htmlkin or Pagelive. Claude publishes and updates the page at the same address.
  • You use Claude Code on a paid plan and the viewer is fine with a claude.ai address. The built-in public link works. Move the page when it needs images as files or a second page.
  • You prefer another assistant. Gemini Canvas for free experiments, ChatGPT if you already pay for it.
  • The page needs user accounts or a database. Lovable, Bolt or ChatGPT Sites; v0 for a Vercel project.
  • Artifacts must stay on company servers. Artifact Server for sharing inside the team, Open WebUI for the chat itself.

FAQ

Why can't people open my shared Claude artifact?

Because artifacts made in a chat after September 16, 2026 open only for people with a Claude account, even with "Anyone with the link" selected. Publish the HTML on a host such as htmlkin, and the link opens for anyone. The step-by-step fixes for moving the page are in the guide on hosting a site made with ChatGPT or Claude.

Is there a free alternative to Claude artifacts?

Yes. For sharing, htmlkin gives a 24-hour link with no account and keeps one site free after sign-up. For building, Gemini Canvas and Google AI Studio are free. Open WebUI, LobeHub and llamacoder are open source.

Do old published Claude artifacts still work?

Yes. Legacy artifacts, made in a chat before September 16, 2026, keep working and can still be published. Anyone with a published link opens them without an account. Unpublishing is final: "You can't publish an artifact again after you unpublish it" (Anthropic Help Center).

Can I put a Claude artifact on my own domain?

Yes, after you move it to a host. Download the HTML, publish it on htmlkin and connect your domain with one DNS record, on any plan including the free one. The SSL certificate is issued automatically.

What is the ChatGPT equivalent of Claude artifacts?

Code blocks with a "Preview" view, which render HTML pages and React components in the chat. For a hosted site with a database, ChatGPT Sites on paid plans. The guide to sharing an HTML file covers what to do with the code afterwards.

Key points

  • New Claude artifacts from a chat open only for viewers with a Claude account. Claude Code on paid plans still gives a public link.
  • If the page is fine and the audience is the problem, keep Claude and publish the HTML on a host.
  • htmlkin gives a public link with no account on either side, a free custom domain and publishing from Claude over MCP.
  • An app with user accounts and a database needs a builder: Lovable, Bolt, v0 or ChatGPT Sites.

Drop your artifact's HTML on htmlkin.io and send a link anyone can open.
